What Velvet Society is
Velvet Society is an advertising platform. Advertisers write their own listings and deal directly with the people who contact them. We are not an agency, we do not employ or represent advertisers, we take no part in arranging anything between an advertiser and a reader, and we take no share of anything agreed between them.
Everything on a listing — the description, the photographs, the rates, the availability, the contact details — is supplied by the advertiser. We review photographs and identity before a listing is published, but we do not verify the accuracy of what an advertiser writes about themselves.
Who may use it
You must be 18 or over to use this site, whether you are advertising or reading. Advertisers must additionally complete identity verification before anything of theirs is published.
You may hold one advertiser account. Accounts are personal to you and must not be shared, sold or transferred.
What you may not do
You may not advertise anyone but yourself, or use a photograph you do not have the right to use. You may not advertise anyone under 18, or anyone who has not agreed to be advertised.
You may not use this site to advertise or arrange anything unlawful, to harass anyone, to impersonate anyone, or to collect other people’s details by automated means.
You may not attempt to reach parts of the service you have not been given access to, or interfere with how it runs for anyone else.
Paying for advertising
Advertising is sold as a fixed prepaid term. You choose the length, you pay once at the start, and it does not renew on its own — there is no recurring charge and nothing is taken from you again unless you buy another term yourself.
Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include any tax due. The price you are shown at checkout is the price charged; if a price changes between you seeing it and paying, the payment is refused rather than taken at the new figure.
Payment is handled by our payment provider. We never see or store your card details.
Refunds and cancellation
If you cancel, your listing stays up until the term you paid for ends. We do not refund the remainder of a term you chose to end early.
If we remove your listing for breaking these terms, the remainder of your term is not refunded. If we remove it in error, or the service is unavailable for a sustained period through our fault, contact us and we will put it right — by extending your term or refunding it.
Nothing here affects your statutory rights.
Moderation
Every photograph is reviewed before it appears. We may refuse a photograph, remove a listing, or suspend an account where we believe these terms have been broken, where we are required to act, or where we have a genuine concern about someone’s safety.
If we suspend or remove something of yours we will tell you why, and you may appeal. We aim to answer an appeal within five working days.
Reporting something
If you believe a listing is unlawful, shows someone under 18, or shows someone who has not consented to appear, report it and we will act on it as a priority. You do not need an account to report a listing.
Our liability
We provide the platform; we do not provide, arrange or supervise anything advertised on it. We are not liable for what an advertiser does or does not do, for anything agreed between an advertiser and a reader, or for a meeting arranged through contact details found here.
We do not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, our liability to an advertiser is limited to what that advertiser paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes and law
We may change these terms. If a change materially affects advertisers we will give notice before it takes effect, and a term already paid for runs to its end on the terms it was bought under.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
